Officer Shoots Pursuit Suspect in Powell County

POWELL COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The Powell County Sheriff’s Office says that a high speed pursuit that injured an Officer ended when an Officer shot and injured the suspect.

A press release says that at 11:15 PM Tuesday evening, a Powell County Deputy and Deer Lodge Police Officer responded to a violation of a restraining order. The female suspect allegedly vandalized and stole property.

The Officers located the suspect, but they say she refused to exit the stolen vehicle she was in and drove off.

The suspect rammed a parked car, then rammed two police cars, injuring one Officer. Two Officers discharged their firearms at the suspect. The suspect was shot in the arm and was taken into custody transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Officers that discharged their weapons are on administrative leave, per department policy. They have not been identified, nor has the suspect.

Law enforcement says that spike strips were successfully deployed twice during the 30 minute pursuit, but the suspect continued driving.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Montana Division of Criminal Investigations.
