HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A vehicle pursuit in Havre on Monday evening led to a man being arrested on multiple pending charges.
25-year-old Chad Allen Wagner of Havre is alleged to be the driver in the pursuit and is facing charges that could include criminal mischief, reckless driving, fleeing a Peace Officer, theft of a motor vehicle, trespass to a vehicle, driving under the influence, and driving without a license.
According to Havre Police Lieutenant Aaron Wittmer, Havre Police were dispatched at 6:57 PM to a report of a stolen vehicle from the Zip Trip on 1st Street.
By 7:18 PM, the Hill County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Caliber, was by Havre Middle School. Authorities lost track of the vehicle, which ended up driving through the Boulevard Avenue construction project, destroying two barricades.
The vehicle, which was damaged, was found at the 1100 block of 16th Street West. The extent of the damage to the vehicle is unclear.
The suspect fled from the vehicle on foot, and witnesses report that he tried to get into vehicles in the Smithville area. The suspect was located hiding in a vehicle on the 1600 block of Smithville Road and was arrested by the Havre Police Department at around 7:37 PM.
No injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.
Public Works Director Dave Peterson says the only damage caused in the construction area was to the barricades. He says the project will not be delayed, with the city’s portion of the project slated to conclude by the end of next week. MDT’s portion of the project is expected to begin next week.
