(MT MVD) May 7th of 2025 is the deadline for REAL IDs becoming required for domestic flights and for entrance to some federal facilities.
The Real ID act of 2005 was issued as another layer of security following the 2001 terrorist attacks on the twin towers in New York City.
There’s a good chance your Montana ID is already REAL ID compliant, if you check your ID card and it has either a black or gold circle with an outline of a star on it, you’re already good to go.
If instead your ID says something like “federal limits apply”, then starting May 7th your ID may no longer be accepted on domestic US flights. Appointments to get your REAL ID are available through your local Montana Motor Vehicle Division branch.
