DENTON, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Department of Transportation says construction work is ongoing on a project to fix a bridge just west of Denton that was heavily damaged in last year’s West Wind Fire.
Construction on the Wolf Creek Bridge, located along Montana Highway 81, began earlier this month with excavation and bank stabilization operations.
The project is expected to be wrapped up by the time June comes to an end, and the bridge may be opened to the public by mid-June.
The bridge was just one of many structures devastated by the fast moving wildfire last December. The fire also destroyed over two dozen homes and scorched over 10,000 acres of land.
While the bridge remains under construction, traffic must continue to use the gravel detour that is in place. The speed limit on the detour is 25 mph. Travelers should plan for additional travel time until the bridge is completed.
MDT says nearby bridge and railroad trestle debris left behind by the fire have been properly disposed of.
