HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – With the calendar turning to 2022, the sale of recreational marijuana is now legal in Montana at licensed dispensaries for those 21 and older.
However, recreational marijuana can only be purchased in counties that supported the 2020 ballot initiative.
Driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal, as does possessing more than an ounce of the drug.
For now, the only shops that can sell recreational marijuana are those that had a medical license on or before November 3rd, 2020. New businesses are not allowed to apply for permits until the summer of 2023.
Marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, so it is not permitted in national parks.
