HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The final results are in from the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Havre check station for the 2019 hunting season. Overall, hunter numbers were about average this year, mule deer harvest was well above average, and other big game and bird harvests were below average.
Hunter numbers were down 10 percent from last year, but 3 percent above the long-term average.
Mule deer brought through the check station totaled 680 for the year, which was down 5 percent from last year, but 37 percent above the long-term average. For the year, 109 white-tails were brought through the station, which was 23 percent lower than last year and 21 percent below the long-term average. Antelope were 27 percent above 2018, but still 70 percent below the long-term average with 80 animals being brought through the station. For the year, 22 elk were brought through, which is about half of last year’s number and 44 percent below the long-term average.
