(Helena) – Montana farmers and ranchers are getting some regulatory relief as they scramble to secure livestock feed before winter.
Governor Greg Gianforte has issued an executive order temporarily suspending hours-of-service and load-weight limits for certain carriers delivering hay across the state. Officials say a persistent, multi-year drought has severely cut into forage production, threatening livestock operations.
Montana Department of Agriculture Director Jillien Streit says the order removes critical bottlenecks during a volatile time. The emergency waiver goes into effect immediately and runs through September 13th.
