Richard Spring Fire Receives Major Disaster Declaration

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Governor Greg Gianforte has announced that the state has secured a major disaster declaration as a result of the Richard Spring Fire, which burned more than 170,000 acres on and near the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in August.

A press release says the federal aid that accompanies the declaration will supplement state, tribal, and local resources being used to offset widespread damage as a result of the fire.

Last month, the state secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant from FEMA to assist with costs associated with fighting the fire.
