The Hill County Salvation Army is having their Back-To-School backpack and school supplies distribution in the month of August. This is done annually to provide school supplies to children in need within Havre City schools.
Salvation Army Emergency Services Director Trina Crawford says this program is designed to provide children with what they need for success in the classroom.
“Those kids that are in the lower income bracket, or maybe there is a need going on in the home and sometimes kids come with nothing. We definitely want to bridge that gap and help so those kiddoes can get some supplies so they can be ready for school.”
Crawford says the items requested are derived from what the teachers per grade level need children to have.
“We go off what the teachers and the schools are requesting. They say this is what these kids need for this grade. Some teachers say we also need this stuff.”
Crawford says this program’s success is determined completely by the donation response of the community.
“Whatever the community gives us is what we hand out. If we run out, if we didn’t get much from the community then we’re not able to distribute and more.”
Crawford says the money and resources collected by their Bell Ringer program in December is allocated to emergency services only and is not used for the backpack program.
Donated school supplies can be delivered to the Hill County Salvation Army’s Emergency Services Office at 328 3rd Avenue in Havre, or at the Thrift Store, both during regular business hours, or call 406-265-6411 to arrange pick up. The deadline is August 17th and distribution is August 22nd and 23rd.
