(Washington D.C.) – This week, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed Montana Republican Senator Tim Sheehy’s Lunar Landing Day Act, which designates July 20th as Lunar Landing Day to recognize America’s leadership in space exploration and science.
To recognize this incredible moment in history, the Lunar Landing Day Act designates July 20th as Lunar Landing Day by adding it to the list of patriotic and national observances codified in Title 36 of the U.S. Code. Patriotic and national observances are permanent observances established by Congress in law that set aside specific time periods to recognize, commemorate, and reflect on individuals, events, and moments of national significance.
This legislation would also encourage proclamations, activities, and educational efforts to commemorate the first successful landing of humans on the Moon on July 20, 1969, and inspire the continued leadership of the United States in space exploration and science.
