The MSU-Northern Skylights basketball team has had a few days to think about the latest results at the Phoenix Frontier Challenge. Head coach Chris Mouat told New Media Broadcasters that the team showed signs towards the end of their tournament and that they can take that momentum into the games they have coming up this week.
“I think if we pick up where we left off (after the Phoenix Frontier Challenge), we’re going to be in good shape. If we pick up where we started, we won’t, ” Mouat said. “Our first game, we were very sluggish offensively. Defensively, I didn’t think we did a very good job on the boards. We got beat.”
“We’ll have a couple of days here. I wish our kids had more time with their families,” Mouat continued. “It’s the reality of college basketball. There’s going to be games around the holidays.”
“It’s going to be a quick turnaround,” Mouat said. “When we were finished, we were looking to get back on the floor, playing and moving forward with the season.”
Mouat not only has his sights set on this week, but looked ahead to Frontier Conference play, where the Skylights only won one game last season.
“For us to compete in the Frontier Conference, we are going to have to play better,” Mouat said. “It’s really in all facets of the game and there were some that were really good (for us) and then we would have some lulls.”
“I think consistency is a big one,” Mouat continued. “We’ve got a lot of work to do. We know that. I think we are not proud (and) not pleased, but encouraged would be the word I have.”
The Skylights hit the floor for games against Ambrose University and Lakeland College this week. Stay tuned for a preview story on those two teams.
