Skylights Basketball Ready to Host “Field Trip Game”

MSU-N Northern Skylights basketball dropped to (3-4) on the season after splitting its games at the MSU-Northern Classic over the weekend. The latest result for the Skylights was a buzzer beating (68-67) loss on Sunday afternoon to fellow NAIA opponent Valley City State.

Head coach Chris Mouat looked back on the final play of that game and said what his team didn’t do correctly.

“There were some situational things we didn’t do very well,” Mouat said. “I think we fouled a little too soon. We had two fouls to burn and we could have let more time run off the clock.”

“They had more time and they made a great play and (Vikings’ forward Rosie Anderson) cleaned up and scored at the buzzer,” Mouat continued. “That’s how it goes.”

The Skylights now turn their attention to Thursday, where the annual “Field Trip Game” is set to take place at the Armory Gym. Local school children will pack the house and scream to their hearts desires as the Skylights will feed off of the energy against the visiting University of Alberta-Augustana.

Coach Mouat shared memories from the first ever “Field Trip Game” and said what the atmosphere will be like for his players come Thursday.

“The first one was years ago. I don’t think we were ready for the noise that those little guys bring,” Mouat said. “It’s hard to coach in (that environment), and so I hope our team is really prepared. I think we’re going to have to communicate on the floor.”

“As far as the kids, we’ve got at least nine commitments right now (totaling) over 600 kids from all over the Hi-Line,” Mouat continued. “We’re really looking forward to that. It gives them a chance to see MSU-Northern (and) watch a college basketball game.”

The Skylights are on the court at 10am on Thursday, followed by for the first time in history the Lights playing right afterwards. Both teams will take on Alberta-Augustana.
