(NMB) The Montana State University Northern Skylights opened their basketball season on Friday with a win over Kings University 75-56. Head Coach of the Skylights Chris Mouat was glad to open the season with a victory, was happy with the effort, but says his team needs to work on some of the little details.
“I think we turned the ball over too much. We certainly didn’t make our layups. Just the simple little things. If we put those shots in the hole, take better care of the basketball, we’re going to be putting up a bunch more points and probably running them out of the gym but instead we allowed it to be close because of those things and a few defensive breakdowns.”
Mouat and the Skylights get back on the floor Tuesday night when they take on Dickinson State, a team Mouat says presents some challenges for his team.
“They get up and down the floor as good as anybody we’ve seen in a long time. They really push in transition including posts. They’ll really, really run. So, we’re going to have to have our track shoes on a little bit. I just think this team plays really hard. They get after it, they shoot a lot of threes. They’re very good inside out and like I said their post player is special.”
