Skylights One-Third of Way Through 2024 Conference Play

MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball is on a two-match skid at the moment, having dropped last week’s slate at Carroll and versus Providence. New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Jerry Wagner, who said his team is getting closer to where they want to be on the court.

“I’m pretty happy that were able to finalize on anybody in this conference,” Wagner said. “That’s how tight it is right now.”

“In this next third of the season when we’re playing everybody the second time of three, that’s where we want to be right now,” Wagner continued. “All these matches are going to be close and we just want to make one better play than they do.”

“We’re unfettered right now,” Wagner said. “We’re on our way and we’re going to get better.”

The second phase of a three-phase Frontier Conference season is here with reverse fixtures starting to take shape. Wagner said it’s like a baseball three-game series where the Skylights will now be playing their opponents for the second time this year. The recipe is to take two of three matches the rest of the way, given the start to conference play for Northern.

“They’re really mini-series and this is just the second match of a three-set match series,” Wagner said. “We’d like to be on the winning end, which is still of the two out of three.”

“We’re going to respond,” Wagner continued. “There’s no question in my mind.”

“Home or away, we have shown to be a more than formidable opponent,” Wagner said.

The Skylights will travel down to Butte to face Montana Tech on Thursday at 7pm, followed by hosting Montana Western right back at home on Saturday beginning at 2pm.
