MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball split its Frontier Conference fixtures this past week, losing at home to Montana Tech while beating Rocky Mountain College on the road. New Media Broadcasters got the thoughts of head coach Jerry Wagner, who said the bounce back for his squad is exactly what is needed to string together wins in this tough conference.
“That was very rewarding,” Wagner said. “To be honest with you, I thought we played very well as a team against Tech.”
“There (are) some things you have to cut down on and for us to with just one day off and a refocus and to then go on the road and beat a team who in Rocky, beat Tech (earlier this season) was very rewarding,” Wagner continued. “We did it in fine fashion (with) 100 percent great attitude and effort by the entire team.”
Serving and passing have been keys to the Skylights volleyball season so far, even in defeat. Coach Wagner shared how the momentum going into Thursday’s match against Carroll should translate to even more productive results as the team hits the road once again.
“We’re taking a little bump from the win for sure, but we know how hard it is to capture that feeling,” Wagner said. “To be able to do it on the road, that’s where I’m going to count on our experience and know-how and hard work to put us in a good situation down in Helena.”
Northern will travel south to the capital city and take on Carroll on Thursday with a 7pm start. The Skylights will then be back for a home conference match against Providence on Saturday at 2pm.
