WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. (NMB) – A smokejumper based out of Montana has died after sustaining injuries while fighting a fire in New Mexico.
Tim Hart, a 36-year-old Forest Service Smokejumper from Cody, Wyoming, sustained the injuries after suffering a hard fall while fighting a fire in Hidalgo County, New Mexico on May 24th.
Hart was working for the West Yellowstone Smokejumpers, which are based out of the Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana, at the time of his death.
Hart had been a wildland firefighter since 2006, and both of Montana’s U.S. Senators offered their condolences in statements released on Thursday.
