HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Hill County Democrats have chosen to elect Krystal Steinmetz as their new Chair.
The decision was reached at a meeting on Monday evening in Havre. Steinmetz is the marketing and events director at the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line. She ran for the open House District 28 seat this past election, but was defeated by Republican Ed Hill by 163 votes.
Steinmetz replaces Jacob Bachmeier, who represented House District 28 for two terms in the State Legislature after being elected in 2016 and 2018, but recently took a job at Big Sky 55+, an advocacy group for older Montanans. That decision played a role in him stepping down from the Chair position and not seeking a third term in the State House.
Also on Monday, the Central Committee elected Cullen Hinkle, the band teacher at Havre High School, as the new Vice Chair for the Hill County Democrats. Hinkle replaces Susan Somers, who recently resigned.
