Dangerous drugs such as fentanyl have been flooding into the Country and Montana as well.
According to the Montana Department of Justice, anti-drug task forces have seized twice as much fentanyl through September 30 of this year than they did the last four years combined.
The Havre Fire Department is noticing the increase as well. Havre Fire Chief Nathan Courtnage explains more.
“Yeah, there has been an increase in overdoses and drug related calls. We are using Narcan more than we ever have before, with fentanyl and opioids and drugs being laced and people not knowing exactly what they’re taking.” – Nathan Courtnage
Fire Chief Courtnage continues to explain what the fire department will do when responding to an overdose, or drug related call.
“Safety is always a concern, but if a patient is overdosing and has the signs and symptoms of an overdose, we can administer Narcan to them, and we always take those patients to the hospital to be evaluated by a doctor.”-Nathan Courtnage
