National Night Out events is happening Tuesday, August 30th at the MSU Northern Sub Drive from 6PM to 8PM.
The event is normally held simultaneously across the United States on the second Tuesday of August, but event organizer Sergeant Ryan Person of the Havre Police Department says he wanted it to coincide with Freshman week at MSU Northern.
“They have the freshmen come out, go through the stuff we have there.”
Sgt. Pearson says the main purpose of National Night Out is to connect with community and to remind the community that agencies are part of the community, too.
“The premise of The National Night Out is crime prevention, crime awareness, drug prevention, and drug awareness. Getting to know the local law enforcement agencies, our fire agencies, and our partners in our community we use, the service organizations.
Another purpose of the National Night is to give something back. On Tuesday there will be a bar-b-que open to the community and free-will donations will be collected and given to the Havre Food Bank.
Stg. Pearson says the Lion’s Club covered the cost of the food cost for the bar-b-que and Gary and Leo’s donated the buns. Also at the event Blind Luck will be performing live music.
The Havre Army National Guard will have events for all ages. Havre Police Protection Association will sell 500 tickets for a gun raffle. Proceeds from the gun raffle will be donated to the Shop with a Cop Program or the Salvation army giving Tree Program.
This event takes place this Tuesday at the MSU Northern subdrive with parking near the Armory Gym.
