Havre, MT – On Friday September 4, Montana State University-Northern athletic director Christen Oberqell, Sports information Director Sierra Woodward, along with multiple former athletes were inducted into the Montana State University-Northern Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2026.
The common thread between the HOF classes over the last three years is the current staffers that were inducted. Woodward and Oberquell are the third and fourth current members of the athletic department to be inducted into the hall of fame. The other two were Lights and Skylights basketball coaches Shawn Huse in 2024 and Chris Mouat in 2025.
Oberquell gave his thoughts on what makes their current athletic department and HOF Unique.
“Usually you’re retired or gone before you get into the hall of fame. I think it shows the strength of our athletic department, the comradery that we have and the way we treat each other.” Oberquell said.
“Shawns been here 24 years Chris has been here 22 years, so we have a very stable department and we help each other out. It’s a very unique athletic department compared to the other departments in the conference.”
Woodward has also been involved as a player and coach with Skylights for just over a decade, while Oberquell joined the Lights athletic department as an athletic trainer in 2001.
