Harlem, Montana experienced the worst plane crash in Montana History. On November 30th, 1992, two cargo planes crashed during a refueling exercise, killing all 13 airmen.
Tom Hofer is a farmer in the Harlem area, he saw the crash and was the first on the scene. Before the memorial service held this past Wednesday, he recounted what he saw arriving on scene.
“Driving into the site we could see fire, and we drove up, stopped and walked out. The first thing I actually seen was a wallet laying on the ground that was open, and then walking into the site and seeing the plane crash, and the burning, and some of the bodies, and I just looked around and stood by the bodies and watched them, and then Fire I believe showed up first.”– Tom Hofer
