Toole County Health Board Appoints Interim Health Officer; Discusses Marias Fair Options

SHELBY, Mont. (NMB) – The Toole County Health Board held an online meeting on Tuesday morning to appoint an interim Health Officer and discuss their options regarding this summer’s Marias Fair.

After a lengthy discussion, Dr. Justin Hooker of the Marias Healthcare Clinic was unanimously appointed as the interim Health Officer for the County.

The previous Health Officer, Dr. Melanie Hardy, was officially relieved of her duties after announcing her pending resignation earlier this month since she is moving out of town in the near future.

The Board also discussed the upcoming Marias Fair, which is scheduled to take place from July 15th through the 19th in Shelby.

Health Director Blair Tomsheck said it’s too early to tell if it will be safe to hold large gatherings by the time the fair is set to begin.

“If we see a resurge, this could be pushed out further. But if we don’t see a resurge, life could resume sooner. So I think it’s just too early to tell.”

There was also discussion about potentially holding fair events such as the Livestock Sale virtually.

The Marias Fair will be on the agenda again at the next Toole County Health Board meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5th at 9 AM.
