LIVINGSTON, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Highway Patrol reports that two people were killed on Sunday evening when their semitractor-trailer struck an oncoming BNSF train in Park County.
The crash occurred at 9:08 PM at the I-90 off ramp at mile marker 350, when the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at a railroad crossing. The vehicle was struck on the driver’s side near the back of the cab by an oncoming train. The power unit combusted, and the two occupants were declared dead at the scene.
The driver was a 23-year-old man from Turlock, California. The passenger has not been identified.
No BNSF employees were injured. The train cab was damaged.
Drug use is a suspected factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
