(Havre) – On Saturday, October 21st United Way of Hill County will be hosting their 8th annual Crab Boil at the 4-H Chuckwagon at the Great Northern Fairgrounds at 5pm. Danielle Golie Executive director of United Way of Hill County talks about what the funds from the event will go toward.
“So, they will really go towards area of greatest need, but we currently just accepted 9 programs in our local community they are all non-profits that are addressing one of those focus areas of education or financial stability or access to health services. Some of them will be including children that have been removed from their home to get them reunited with their families in a safe healthy environment as well as early literacy how important that is, including just access to healthy food such as our soup kitchen or food banks. Yeah, we have nine different programs were supporting this year, but all of the funds are going to go toward that greatest need of those programs.”
She also talks about what will be happening at the event.
“So, it is an all you can eat king crab boil which will include king crabs, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn. So, again that’s an all you can eat and then there is also games, raffles, live auction, dessert, auction. Vick’s Place will be hosting a cash bar and it’s really just an opportunity for people to come out have an amazing meal but also support United Way as well as what United Way’s mission is which is to support local projects and programs in our community that really focus on education financial stability as well as access to healthcare.”
She also talks about what is United Way.
“Yeah, United Way was originally developed actually in Denver, Colorado and it was a group of people that came together and saw a need and thought well let’s create an organization to be able to fund raise and help local organizations that are doing awesome work in the community, Let’s help them collaborate with them and get them some resources to continue to do the work. So, here in hill county that pretty much been the philosophy and the mission since it was incepted in 1072. So, again we just go out promote but collaborate. My personal passion is collaborating with these agencies and these programs making sure they have the resources they need to do the amazing work that they’re already doing but also making sure that they’re addressing the most acute needs in our community as well as prevention.”
