HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – United Way of Hill County is currently holding an online auction to raise money for their funded partners.
Executive Director Delonna Malone says more than two dozen items are up for bidding on their Facebook page, with starting bids ranging from $50-$750.
“We had an online auction committee that got together and went out to different businesses and were able to secure some of these items. Plus we have some people in the Havre area here that have baked cookies, cake, brownies. So everybody just comes together and feels good about donating things. So we really appreciate that.”
The online auction is taking place in part because they had to cancel their annual crab boil due to COVID-19 concerns. However, one of the items up for bid is a private crab boil for a group of eight.
“A couple of our board members will come in and prepare a meal of crab, shrimp, corn on the cob, potatoes, kielbasa sausage. It’s just a crab boil. They boil it all together and it’s a wonderful meal. People in Havre have really supported us with that. So they will come to your house and cook the crab.”
Non-food related auction items include an original acrylic painting, a sports fan chair with a cooler and sound system, an inflatable party, piano lessons and more.
The ten funded partners money raised will go to are:
- Salvation Army
- Hill County Food Bank
- Hill County Family Planning
- Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen
- Havre Senior Center
- Hill County Meal on Wheels
- District IV HRDC Adult Education
- Hill County DUI Drug Court
- District IV HRDC Domestic Abuse Program
- CASA of Hill County
Bids can be placed until noon on Sundday, September 27th. Winners will be announced later in the afternoon.
“It’s really a kickoff to our annual campaign. We’re hoping to have a lot of success with this. It’s new for us, so we’ll kind of see how everything goes. It’s kind of a different year for everything that’s taking place, but we’re just doing what we can with the way things are.”
