(Washington) – The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced on July 27 that the train derailment in Joplin, Montana in 2021 was caused by poor track conditions.
NTSB reported that the derailment which cause the death of three passengers and injured 49 passengers and crew was caused by several factors including a worn rial, vertical deflection, subgrade instability and track misalignment.
Along with the report NTSB included a list of recommendations for Amtrak and BNSF railway to insure the incident does not happen again. The final report from NTSB can be found on their website at www.ntsb.gov/news/press-releases
