(Havre) – Governor Greg Gianforte was in Havre on Thursday to present the Governor’s Forest Products Award. He explained to New Media Broadcasters what the award was started.
“Really, it’s a way to honor folks that are good stewards. When we actively manage our forests we have healthier forests, there’s more wildlife habitat, there’s more recreation and we create jobs and livelihood.”
The competition for the award was stiff and the 2022 winners are Havre’s Bear Paw Forestry owned by the Waid Family. Governor Gianforte tells us why they are being honored.
“And we recognize them really for their innovation. They are truly steward of the land. They need to figure it out for their own place and now they’re doing logging across the Bear Paws.”
Layne Waid is one of the co-owners of Bear Paw Forestry and he tells us the family’s reaction to receiving the Governor’s Forest Products Award.
“It’s really a cool feeling to be recognized for something like this. We just really, really appreciate it.”
