The drones of science fiction are now a reality for Hill County.
A new cohesive drone program is officially operational in Hill County. Drones will be used for mosquito and weed control, as well as aerial photography for law enforcement and other purposes.
Josh Miller the Drone Program Administrator, and Pilot in command explains the process of establishing the drone program in Hill County.
“Well, it started with a basic Part 107 License, and then from there we had of course, we’re using chemicals, we’re using things of that nature in the air space, so Aerial Applicators License with the Montana Department of Agriculture, so a lot of education there, a lot of education in working in areas along the border, in military operations areas, things of that nature too. So, the building of the program included literally authoring policies and procedures from scratch for the county as well, so a lot of work has gone into it over the last couple of years. I’ve been full time now for the last year, so a lot more time and dedication has been able to go into the program, and so super proud to announce as of this week the drone program is completely operational in Hill County.” -Josh Miller
