(Montana) About 3.7 million people are at immediate risk of losing health coverage should the federal government cut funding for Medicaid expansions.
Montana is one of nine states that have “trigger-laws”, something set in place to reduce or end support for programs should funding drop below a certain threshold.
Montana’s law rolls back expansion if the federal government reduces its funding share from 90%, but allows it to continue if lawmakers identify additional funding. Under state law, Montana lawmakers must reauthorize its Medicaid expansion in 2025 or the expansion will end.
