(NMB) Wildfire activity is increasing across Montana as hot, dry conditions and smoky air continue to impact much of the state. The Silvertip fire in the Flathead
National Forest is currently the state’s largest active wildfire at more that 4100 acres and remains zero percent contained. Fire crews are also battling the Elder 1
fire near Frenchtown, that fire is approaching 1000 acres. The Skillet fire in Lincoln County is at approximately 1000 acres. The DNRC is reporting 1,405 fires year
to date and over 40,000 acres burned year to date. Officials are urging residents to stay alert, monitor air quality and follow any local fire restrictions as elevated fire
danger continues.
