Montana is currently faced with a devastating issue. Montana’s Governor Greg Gianforte recently said, “Last summer Montana saw some of the highest opioid overdose monthly call volumes in the last three years.” And according to the CDC opioid related deaths have been increasing in the United States. New Media Broadcasters sat down with Disease Intervention Specialist Brandi Williams to learn about Narcan and its potential to save life.
“Narcan is what’s considered to be an opioid antagonist medication. So, you have receptors in your brain that accept the opioid once they enter into your system and Narcan knocks the opioids off of these receptors, and it also prevents more from attaching. So, it will bring somebody out of an opioid overdose.”
Brandi Williams has been running a class on how to administer Narcan properly.
“I’m seeing really good reactions from the groups that I’ve trained. I’ve trained about eighty-five people in the community since about June. That has been indicative of some really good community support.”
