HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A woman that led police on a high-speed pursuit on US Highway 87 in March has been sentenced in Hill County District Court.
20-year-old Sonya Wolfwaker was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections on Tuesday after pleading guilty to felony criminal endangerment.
As part of the plea agreement, the three other charges Wolfwalker was facing, including the felonies of theft and criminal possession of dangerous drugs, were dismissed.
Court documents state that on March 17th in Box Elder, Rocky Boy Police spotted a vehicle stolen out of Billings. When the officer activated his emergency lights, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle drove as much as 60 miles an hour in a Box Elder school zone before turning onto US 87. While on the highway, Wolfwalker drove as much as 120 miles per hour. During the pursuit, the vehicle crossed the center line numerous times, passed in no-passing zones, and forced several motorists sharply to the shoulder to avoid collision.
Hill County Sheriff’s Office Deputies then responded to the active pursuit and successfully brought the vehicle to a stop by deflating the tires using a Stinger Spike System. Wolfwalker, the driver of the vehicle, was apprehended. The two other occupants of the vehicle were also taken into custody.
Law enforcement officers observed a paper bindle in the driver’s door panel in plain view. After a warrant to search the vehicle was granted, a Tri-Agency Task Force Agent took custody of the paper bindle, which was found to contain methamphetamine.
Wolfwalker’s driver’s license has also been suspended. Her sentence will run concurrently with any other sentences she is currently serving.
