HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – 21st Annual Youth Trapper Camp to happen at Beaver Creek Park’s Camp Kiwanis June 12-14.
Organizer Fran Buell says the event welcomes families and people of all ages and experience levels to participate in various outdoor activities.
“We have survival classes and furbearer ID. We have management, how to make sets, how to handle fur and Fish Wildlife and Parks representatives are there to teach basics and what their part plays in trapping and the outdoors.”
Buell says people come from all over the United States for the event which in turn helps the community.
“Last year we had from Pennsylvania, we had from Idaho, Wyoming, Missouri – we have them coming from all over. And a lot of times these people will come and it’s good for the community because we tell them about Havre Beneath the Streets, Wahkpa Chu’gn, Fort Assiniboine and the different things they can see after the camp.”
Buell says it’s not all about trapping, it’s about families and how to enjoy and manage yourself outdoors properly and ethically.
The deadline to apply for the event is May 15.
