JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – Four people were killed and two were injured in a head-on crash on Interstate 90 West in Jefferson County on Saturday morning.
The victims include a 45-year-old man from Spokane, Washington, who was the only occupant of the vehicle driving the wrong way. He is believed to have been under the influence of drugs. The crash he caused killed a 14-year-old girl, a 37-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man – all from Hartsford, South Dakota. A 2-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl, also from Hartsford, South Dakota, were also in the vehicle that was struck and were transported to a local hospital with injuries.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred at 5:00 AM at mile marker 241 near Whitehall, when an eastbound Chevy Suburban struck a westbound Chevy Traverse. The Suburban rolled and came to a rest on the concrete center median, while the Traverse came to rest in the north ditch against the embankment.
The four victims, two of which were wearing seatbelts, were all declared dead at the scene. The road was clear and dry.
