On Tuesday the Hill County Commission informed the public that the commission took action to adopt Stage 1 fire restrictions on September 13th, 2002 that will take effect on Friday September 16th.
This is due to the dry conditions in Hill County, the ongoing firefighting efforts on the Eagle Creek Fire, and the potential for an increase in fire activity.
The following acts are prohibited until further notice:
Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire unless noted in the exemptions below.
Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
Exemptions for Stage I*:
- Persons with written permit that specifically authorizes the otherwise prohibited
- Persons using a device solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LGP fuels that can be turned on and Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of device.
- Persons conducting activities in those designated area where the activity is specifically authorized by written posted
- Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official
- All land within a city boundary is
- Other exemptions unique to each agency/tribe.
- Listed campgrounds/recreation sites where campfires are allowed during Stage I restrictions. See Appendix H.
