(Chinook) – Starting August8th, the 4-H events of The Blaine County Fair begin. Julianne Snediger the 4-H Blaine County extension agent explains all the events happening over the week.
“Fair for us kicks off with the 4-H & FFA show, and we’ll start that at 10am at the George Ortner Arena here at the Blaine County Fairgrounds so that kind of kicks us off and then Wednesday we do all of our indoor projects and interviews and those take place from 1pm to 5pm and then Thursdays are small animal shows are throughout the day. So, we start with dog at 9:00 and then we have rabbits at 11:00 a.m. poultry at 1pm and cats at 3 pm and that is also our entry day for the large animals. We move into our livestock shows with our Friday and Saturday. Swine is at 8am on Friday morning and then lamb show is at 1pm. The horse Showmanship portion of the fair is at three on Friday. Our beef show is first thing Saturday morning at 8 am and then we move into Round Robin at 1pm and our 4-H livestock sale is at 3pm on Saturday.”
She goes on to explain what 4-h members learn from doing these shows.
“So, some of the life skills that our 4-H members learn throughout the year are responsibility and teamwork. It takes a lot of effort to put these projects together, so they get to showcase that not only through their indoor interviews but also when they’re visiting with other different livestock judges. They get to share what they’ve learned all focused-on AG and life skills and things that they’ll use in the future.”
She also talks about what she is most excited about for the fair.
“I just get most excited to see the kids and what they’ve accomplished throughout the year. It takes a lot of hard work to get the projects done and they learn a lot throughout the year. So, I’m just excited to see how the kids have done with their projects this year.”
She also talked about how she expects the event to be comfortable and how its starting to look amazing.
“The weather looks to be pretty cooperative for us at the fair, were looking at low to mid 80s So that’s pretty amazing for an August fair. So, we’ve done everything we can to make sure that it’s cool and comfortable for everybody that attend. We try to keep our 4-He food booth as cool as possible so folks can enjoy a burger or homemade pie all served with a smile by a 4-H member. We put in an all-grass arena for some of our smaller livestock same as last year. It’s looking amazing and looking like it will be great for the kids to show on this year again.”
