Two 9C teams took the floor for the first time at the 2025 Northern ‘C’ Divisional basketball tournament in Great Falls on Wednesday night. The Big Sandy Lady Pioneers got off to a good start, beating Cascade (78-57). Meanwhile, the Fort Benton Longhorns took care of Cascade’s boys’, (64-50).
On the girls’ side, the Lady Pioneers could not miss in the first half. They hit 19 field goals in the first 16 minutes. The team also forced 22 Cascade turnovers in the contest. Eva Yeadon continued her tear. The senior lit up the Lady Badgers for 32 points on the night. She was joined in double-figures by Kenzie Kallenberger, who had 18 and Jai Baumann with 10. Big Sandy will face the winner of Thursday morning’s Fort Benton/Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine game on Friday in the first girls’s semifinal.
For the Longhorn boys’, they controlled the game from the start, leading by as many as 23 points. Kelton Veilleux was stellar, putting in a game-high 28 points. He was joined by Kellen Diekhans’ 15 as the only other player in double-figures. Fort Benton gets the winner of Thursday afternoon’s Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine/Chester-Joplin-Inverness game, which takes place on Friday around 7pm.
Other scores from Wednesday night’s opening action was Centerville’s boys over Heart Butte, (68-26) and Roy-Winifred’s girls pounding Simms, (67-9). Follow along on HiLineToday.com for the pairings from all divisional tournaments taking place this weekend.
