HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Actors’ Theatre is hosting acting camps this summer for children ages 5-15 in Havre, Shelby, Chinook and Rocky Boy.
Children/Youth Director Angela Pratt said this summer’s KidsMAT program will look a little bit different than previous years due to COVID-19 but it is sure to be just as fun.
“We’re going to do things a little different in the fact that we are only doing 25 kids per camp and we’re going to do it outside. So, it’s a little different but it’ll a lot of fun and I think it will work really well with the show that we’ve chosen.”
Pratt said they have a great curriculum planned for the kids that will teach them about acting, theater production and more.
“We start with basic acting games and get them comfortable with their bodies and get them comfortable with talking in front of people and being silly. We do a lot of art things. So, we let them color. They build their own costume piece. So, they get to decide what they want to be with their character. They do an audition. So, they’ll learn how to audition in front of people and then they’ll each get a part in the show and they’ll have to learn lines.”
Pratt said there will be four camps held at Rotary Park in Havre and the first camp will start 9 a.m. Monday, June 15.
“We’re going to do it there because it’s nice and open and there is very little play equipment that the kids will be tempted to want to go play on. We have a big tent we’re going to set up so we can keep the kids out of the elements if we need and porta potties there for student use only.”
Children who attend will participate from 9-3p.m. Monday through Thursday.
MAT wants the public to know that scholarships are available for kids who may be unable to pay the fees for summer camps.
