TURNER, Mont. (NMB) – Turner Public Schools will be using recent COVID-relief funding for technology improvements and suicide prevention.
Superintendent Tony Warren says they have just received over $35,000 in funding from the Governor’s office, which will go towards the purchase of five Smart Boards, 20 iPads and 11 laptops.
“We’re able to upgrade a significant amount of our technology in one swoop, which is outstanding for our school. It gives our teachers better tools to do their jobs, it provides for enhanced learning opportunities for our students. It’s a big win for our district.”
The District has already ordered the technology and is hoping for it to arrive in the coming weeks.
The District has also been awarded a $4,100 grant from the Department of Public Health and Human Services to help pay for SafeTALK Suicide Prevention training for staff that is scheduled for next month.
“It’s a face to face training program that teaches participants to recognize and engage persons who might be having thoughts of suicide and to connect them with community resources, training and suicide intervention. We’re very excited to have that coming up here. We feel it’s a great resource and training to have our staff participate in.”
As for the return to classroom learning, Warren says it has gone well. So far, no District-associated persons have tested positive for COVID-19, although a few people have had to be quarantined at times after being identified as close contacts.
