FORT BENTON, Mont. (NMB) – Last weekend’s Chouteau County 4-H Livestock Auction saw impressive sales figures, with over $224,000 in gross sales.
Extension Agent Tyler Lane says 20 steers went for an average of $3.89 a pound, three sheep went for an average of $9.75 a pound, 32 pigs went for an average of $11.59 a pound, and three bred heifers went for a total of $3,267.
“We’re really happy with the fair and we’re greatly appreciative for the involvement and the wonderful weather. We had probably the most ideal weather at a fair that we’ve had in a lot of years. It was just a beautiful week and the animals performed well.”
The gross sales figure includes a donation of over $6,700 towards building and equipment improvements.
“That’s just phenomenal. We’re always in need of equipment and improvements at the Fairgrounds. So that’s just wonderful. And of course with most of these 4-H kids, the money goes towards their college accounts. So it’s an investment in agriculture, is what it is.”
