HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Governor Greg Gianforte has provided the public with a readout from a fire briefing he received on Tuesday from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 18 large fire incidents in Montana. Since the start of the year, there have been over 2,160 fire starts in the state and around 827,000 acres have burned.
Officials estimate around 50 residences have been lost this year due to fires.
The current top priority is the Woods Creek Fire in the Big Belt Mountains, which is at 55,000 acres and 90 percent containment.
Officials estimate that $48.5 million of the state’s $105 million Fire Suppression Fund has been spent since the start of the fiscal year.
