Box Elder Double Homicide Plea

According to the Montana State Attorney General’s Office, on Monday, Melody Bernard was in the Hill County 12th Judicial District Court in Havre, to change her plea in the 2024 double homicide that took place in Box Elder.

Bernard pled guilty to two counts of deliberate homicide by accountability for her role in the fatal shooting, State of Montana prosecutors will ask for an 80-year sentence with a 40-year parole restriction to run concurrently with her federal prison sentence. She has approximately 15 years remaining in federal prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for October 26th.

Bernard’s co-defendant Miguel Angel Ibanez plead guilty last month to charges of deliberate homicide. The Montana Attorney’s General’s office will argue for life in prison in this case. Ibanez’s sentencing is scheduled for November 23rd.
