Governor Sued for Allegedly Blocking Release of Public Records

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Govenror Greg Gianforte is being sued by Montanans who claim his office has refused to release public records from the recent legislative session.

The suit was filed in Helena by former employees to past Governors Brian Schweitzer and Steve Bullock, who allege that the unreleased documents, titled ‘Agency Bill Monitoring Forms,’ include information on whether the Gianforte Administration knew whether bills making their way through the legislature were unconstitutional or had serious legal problems.

A Gianforte spokesperson told MTN News that they do not comment on pending litigation, “especially partisan lawsuits launched by left-wing political operatives.”

The plaintiffs are asking a state judge to release any documents not deemed “privileged,” arguing that the public has the right to know as guaranteed in the state’s constitution.
