HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – About a dozen people attended the weekly Legislative Call-In Session at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre on Friday afternoon to talk with a few of our local lawmakers.
Representatives Jacob Bachmeier and Josh Kassmier invited Jim Keane and Ryan Lynch from the Appropriations Committee, who spoke about a bill that would create a new system for determining how much money Montana should raise for infrastructure through bonding. They also discussed trying to get a few infrastructure projects in Havre funded.
Bachmeier said he dropped what he calls “Keely’s Bill”, which would change laws regarding dog treats, but he doesn’t expect to have a hearing until after the transmittal break. He said that the Department of Agriculture was also in favor of this bill. Bachmeier had a hearing Friday about his bill to name the “Hippy Hippy Shake” as the state rock and roll song. He says this bill is about honoring the Montanan that wrote it and that is isn’t taking time away from other, more important bills.
Some at the meeting were curious about the bill that would allocate $100,000 to Havre Beneath the Streets and Bachmeier said that the bill was tabled, but not dead.
Bachmeier said there are three bills regarding raw milk at the moment, and one of them seems likely to pass. He supports the bill that would regulate raw milk like other dairy providers, but would outline a process for the gathering and sale of raw milk.
