HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – After months of planning a move that included bringing the new location up to current code, coordinating help from community volunteers, to the actual transporting of the museum’s artifacts and displays the H. Earl Clack Museum is ready to open its new home in the former Griggs Printing Company building on U-2 and 5th in Havre to the public on Saturday, July 9th.
Elaine Morse, President of the Museum foundation and Museum Board Chair Lela Patera are both relieved the museum is in their forever home.
“Our new home is amazing, ” says Patera. “We had the soft opening…people were very appreciative of how we’ve laid it out and how roomy it is. I know the people of Havre and Hill county are going to really like what is going on down here, too. We’re anxious to have them come down and get feedback from them.”
Morse says the opening of the new location is just the beginning, not the finish line for the H. Earl Clack Museum. “It’s our building and we’ve made a real good start in getting it open, but we still have a lot of things that we want to do. It’s going to be an ongoing project, probably for years and years but we want to be the repository for Hill County history.”
Starting at 10am Saturday there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and a grand opening sign presented by the Havre Chamber of Commerce. Both Morse and Patera are expecting to say a few words of welcome. Board members will be at the museum to talk about and explain the history of many of the exhibits. There will also be a raffle drawing for gifts.
Admission for the museum, including the grand opening will be $3 for adults, $2 for ages 6-12 and free to children 5 and under and will be open from 10-2pm. On Saturday the museum will be offering a ‘Friends of the Museum’ pass for $25 to allow an immediate family unit to visit the museum for the year.
The Wahkpa Chu’gn Buffalo Jump behind the Holiday Village Mall will be open that day. Morse says special arrangements will be available to buy a combined pass to visit the museum and go on the Buffalo Jump tour.
