HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Former State Senator and Hill County Deputy Attorney Kris Hansen died on Thursday morning at the age of 52.
Hansen, a Republican, was Hill County Deputy Attorney prior to representing House District 33 beginning in 2011. She then represented Senate District 14 in the Legislature from 2014 to 2016. Hansen stepped down to take a role as Chief Legal Counsel at the State Auditor’s Office, at which time Russ Tempel of Chester was appointed to the seat.
Most recently, Hansen was Chief Deputy for the Montana Department of Justice under Attorney General Austin Knudsen, before stepping down for personal reasons in May.
Hansen was also a military veteran, serving overseas with the Montana National Guard and the CIA.
Governor Greg Gianforte issued a statement on Friday offering condolences and calling Hansen “a committed public servant and patriot.”
