(NMB) With the regular season complete, The Havre Northstars American Legion Baseball team will now turn their focus to the postseason. Havre will be the host site of this week’s North “A District Tournament. The Northstars finished the regular season with a 33 and 19 overall record, 8 and 4 in the district, earned the number two seed and will face the Calgary Stride in the first round Thursday evening at 7pM. Head coach Patch Wirtzberger knows his team is looking forward to having the District tournament on their home diamond. “The boys have put in a lot of hard work, it’s good to see them have some success there in the regular season, but i know they have been looking forward to this district tournament at home for a long time now. Hopefully we can keep on getting prepared this week and get deep into this tournament.”
To make that deep tournament run, the Northstars will rely on their pitching staff. ” We have a really deep pitching staff and we have confidence in every single one of those guys to go out there and get deep into a ballgame and give us a chance to win.”
The North District Tournament will run Thursday through Sunday at American Legion Park. Other first round match ups will be Lethbridge versus Tri County at 10am, Medicine Hat takes on Lewistown at 1pm and Vauxhall plays The Great Falls Chargers at 4pm. The Tournament is true double elimination with the top two teams advancing to the State American Legion Baseball Tournament.
