As the Montana economy grows and jobs are created, businesses are facing a specific problem.
When most people are employed, it can be a challenge to find new employees, and in October 2022 the Montana unemployment rate was only three percent.
Ashley Callahan the general manager at Bear Paw Meats in Havre feels that Havre is experiencing a labor shortage.

Most entry level jobs like the ones that Ashley offers can be ideal for young people, yet Ashley has had trouble finding young people to work. Ethan Roetman a MSUN student explains why he doesn’t have a job.
“I make enough money in the summer working, so I don’t have to have a job while I’m going to school. My class schedule with sports and extracurriculars is too busy to have a job.”– Ethan Roetman
According to Ethan laziness isn’t the problem.
“I think there can definitely be certain people my age that have less incentive to work, but I think there are still people in this generation, like any other generation that are willing to work, and know that it takes hard work to get certain places in life.”– Ethan Roetman
