Havre Businesses in a Labor Shortage

Montana businesses are facing a unique problem as the economy grows.

In October 2022 the Montana unemployment rate was only three percent. When so many people are employed, businesses can have a hard time finding new employees.

Some Havre businesses like the Best Western Hotel are struggling to hire employees and are running short staffed. Jeff Miller the General Manager at the Best Western Plus explains more.

“I mean we’re probably, all in all between the desk, housekeeping, and maintenance we’re a good, in a perfect world probably 10 to fifteen people still short.”– Jeff Miller

Jeff Continued to say that it is hard to compete with larger corporations that can afford better pay and benefits.

“Not as much as I think some businesses, but we definitely have our challenges, and we continue to do a lot of things to try and mitigate that.”-Joey Himmelberg

Joey then mentioned that Mcdonalds has a high starting pay and various benefits for its employees.
