Montana and Havre specifically have been at the center of attention. First a Chinese Spy Balloon was spotted over Billings. Then the airspace over Havre was shut down after radars noticed an unidentified flying object.
Since then, several other objects have been shot down throughout the country. Senator Tester along with other Montana officials have been working closely with various federal agencies to monitor the problem.
Senator Tester explains what he knows about the airspace shut down so far.
“There was an object, probably a balloon, but an object in the area, an area northeast of Great falls, which includes Havre. That object was at a low enough altitude where it could have some impact on flights in that area and so the FAA shut down any sort of flight activity over that region…. because they didn’t know exactly where the doggone thing was at that moment in time, they decided to shut down the airspace to be careful.”-Senator Tester
Senator Tester then explains that officials are in the process of recovering the object right now.
“They’re in the process of finding it right now. It’s in Lake Huron, and the recovery process is going on right now.” -Senator Tester
Officials believe the object in Lake Huron is the same object that shut down the airspace over Havre, however Senator tester says that has not been entirely confirmed.
